Designed as a useful and in-depth travel guide for
all U.S. travelers, the UF Rating System (UFRS) is unique in that it
focuses on providing travelers with disabilities and their families
the vital information they need to locate the most accessible, convenient
and "User-Friendly" facilities available in our diverse and
changing demographic marketplace.
Disability - whether short term or permanent does not
stop people from wanting to travel for pleasure or needing to travel
for business. Although locating accessible, appropriate accommodations
for someone who has impaired vision, diminished hearing, or who uses
a wheelchair for their mobility, even today remains a challenge. Hence,
travel is often sidelined or delayed and sometimes abandoned altogether
due to the general hassles that people with disabilities face when traveling
- hassles that their non-disabled counterparts do not encounter.
Thankfully we at the UF Travel Guide are aware of the
problems brought on by the abuse and misuse of the international symbol
of accessibility and are working hard to provide you with the appropriate
information you need to overcome the barriers which still remain within
the built environment. With the assistance of corporate sponsors we
are able to create a growing network of travel options for people with
disabilities nationwide while broadening the market of accessible travel.
This site will be continually expanding as we work
together with other "ability" related organizations throughout
the country in an effort to promote the ideals of the Independent Living
Movement and further the philosophy of the Americans with Disabilities
Act by improving lives, creating opportunity and fostering the independence
of all Americans.
We encourage you to use of our site and visit our sponsors
when making your future travel plans that we may all unite to promote
the development of more User-Friendly facilities that we may all one
day benefit from.
